If you're a chocolate lover, this easy overnight oatmeal recipe will makes mornings so much more enjoyable. It's rich and creamy, but not overwhelmingly sweet. It tastes like an indulgent breakfast treat, especially when topped with some coconut yogurt and fresh fruit.

Overnight oats

Toppings

  • ¼ cup (60 mL)
    unsweetened coconut yogurt
  • ¼ cup (36 g)
    fresh strawberries
  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL)

Directions

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a mason jar or airtight container and let sit overnight in the fridge.
  2. The next morning, add your desired toppings. Enjoy!

This was good, though a little overpowering on the coco powder side. I did use cacao powder though, so that was probably it. It was still yummy and adding yogurt, strawberries, and bananas really hit the spot!

Hey Eve, thanks for sharing your experience with the recipe. We prefer Dutch-processed cocoa powder since it's sweeter in flavour and dissolves easily in liquid compared to natural cocoa powder or cacao powder which is more bitter. So glad the overnight oats were still enjoyed with the yogurt and fruit though 🫢✨

I must say I was a bit sceptical because I didn't spot any evident source of sweetness in the ingredient list but as I tried and was blown away by the delicious taste and texture!

Absolutely delicious!
The little bit of shredded chocolate gives it a very rich taste.
I omitted maple syrup and substituted with a mashed banana for sweetness.

Hey Anita! Thanks for the question. The similarity is partly due to the type and amount of ingredients used. For example, the Almond Chocolate Overnight Oats recipe includes 2 tablespoons of nut butter in the base and more fruit. This recipe uses 1 tablespoon of nut butter in the base and another tablespoon as a topping, making the total amount similar. It also includes less fruit as a topping, along with a bit of coconut yogurt. Do let us know if this helps πŸ€—

I batch make it actually. I make 5 different mason jars of this overnight oats every sunday and use it throughout the week l They stay good in fridge. I add the topping only in the morning just before eating

This is amazing!!! I love overnight oats but my husband and kids have never enjoyed it. This got a massive thumbs up from them all. I’ve never used hazelnut butter before and it’s my new favourite nut butter. I really enjoyed it topped with strawberries as a nice fresh taste to balance it out.

Depending on the sweetness of your 'Nutella', you might want to add something to balance that sweetness. I ended up putting a bunch of thawed frozen berries on top and it was divine. Such a delicious treat and a good choice for "second breakfast".

I’ve tried different topping combinations and so far I prefer this combination to compensate the bittersweet flavour: roasted and salted pumpkin seeds, coconut yoghurt and stewed or thawed strawberries.
