Just great! I am doing it over and over for quite a while now. For a breakfast on the sweet side, it has lots of nutrition, but more importantly, it has great flavour. Sweet from the bananas, earthy and creamy from tahini and the very unique texture and taste of roasted buckwheat. With crunch of sesame seeds and walnuts and rich chocolate flavour, especially if you add dark chocolate on top. You can make it as sweet as you want by adding maple syrup, but I skip it mostly as I prefer it less sweet for a regular breakie. All in all, thanks PUL-Team for this enrichment to my regular recipe collection.
Hmmm, I think it's just us but we will probably leave buckwheat to savoury dishes. It's not bad, the grain is cooked very well, this method is the right one (we are a kasha nation too). It's just not for us. But if you like chocolate, bananas and are not used to kasha with veggies and tempeh then you will love this.
My first time trying kasha and I loved it!
Very delicious. I like my breakfast sweet, so I added extra chocolate chips. I even added a small piece of PUP fudgy brownie on top to my leftovers. Very yum!
Very filling recipe, I did add some more maple syrup as a garnish.
So delicious :) love the taste and that its easy to cook
Really nice. I’m totally gluten intolerant and breakfast is a difficult meal for me. This was a lovely surprise. Thanks.
I love buckwheat but never thought there was a sweet version. This Def becomes one of my weekend breakfasts
I love roasted buckwheat! Yet, I never thought that it could be eaten with sweet ingredients, so thank you! I tried this recipe and I am in love, but I might cook it in water next time and once it’s a done, mix it with milk and other ingredients and simmer for a bit. For me kasha takes in too much liquid and is still not cooked all the way through, if I cook it for longer, it burns… the same happened with another recipe that asked for kasha to be cooked in tomato sauce.
But overall, I loved it, and I hope there will be more recipes with kasha as it’s super healthy ❤️
I absolutely loved this! It is made out of things I still usually have in the pantry even when I really need to go grocery shopping- and it is delicious!
I love this recipe! It’s turning into my favourite breakfast! I have been looking for a buckwheat porridge recipe for a while, as I can’t really eat oats- so this is perfect! Thank you.
I look forward to trying this recipe too one day, hopefully 😊🙂
I have buckwheat but it has quite q few months, hopefully it still okay to cook it.
Should try slowly some of your breakfast recipes, find it hard to do different recipes as hard to choose as everything looks so delicious 😍😍❤️❤️
Thank you for sharing Sadia 😘😘💓💓
Hi,
I love the recipe and it’s on my weekly rotation of breakfasts ! ♥️
However I feel like the nutrition information is off, I calculated it myself and the calories where way higher. I could be wrong but I would appreciate a check on that! Thank you
Very delicious! I have walnut allergy but I tried with roasted sunflower seeds+ added a little goji berries on the top.Fits perfectly!
Absolutely delicious. I think people complaining about it in the comments put the fire too high or forgot to stir often. For me it turned out perfectly fine
Hi! These are so good! Thank you so much for my favorite breakfast! I added homemade vegan toffee with the chocolate chips and it was great!
This is the best breakfast recipe you've made! Absolutely love it, such a delicious flavour and feels really healthy too.
I really want to like this recipe as everything ingredient is something I like. But this is the first PUL recipe I have tried and couldn't finish. I have marked it down for 2 reasons
One was my personal preference because it wasn't the recipe that was the issue. It was my personal taste. The texture was very strange and the buck wheat added a lot more savouryness than I thought it was going to! I got about a third/half way through and had to stop eating because I couldn't get over the texture.
Two, the only other reason I have marked it down again is because I really feel it needs longer cooking. I followed. The recipe exactly as stated, but when I was eating it, the Cocoa powder felt like it needed to be cooked out a bit?
I think others may love this recipe but it you are put off by textures, this might not be for you!
I adore this recipebut find the tablespoon of Cocoa powder too much so halved the amount and its now perfect. Really enjoying the rich variety of breakfast recipes on PUL x
Delicious! We make it time and time again. My 10yo loves it!
Never had anything like this before! I used Organic Cacao Powder instead and it was still really good - guessing a bit less sweet which I didn’t mind! Very filling!
I must admit. I hate buckwheat. It smells and tastes funny.
BUT I LOVE this “porridge”. Filling. Chocolatey. Crunchy.
I hate buckwheat a little bit less now. ✌️
Yum 😋 A nice change from my regular oatmeal
Really sad about how this turned out. I made quite a lot of your recipes and all of them were bangers, this one was an absolute fail and waste of ingredients. Everything instantly burned and got stuck to the bottom of the pot, the soy milk boiled over almost immediately, I had a "skin" forming on top of the cooking buckwheat all the time and I ended up throwing away a bunch of soupy-burned-uncooked buckwheat :(
Me and my children like it a lot! Healthy and original!
Absolutely delicious! Such a treat and super filling.
New weekend favourite
Amazing!
Love this so much. I feel amazing after eating this. More buckwheat porridge recipes please!
This is a game changer! Healthy, nourishing and comforting. Because I’m lazy, I made the buckwheat with water in my rice cooker and then just stirred in the rest of the ingredients once done. The portion size was perfect for me. I can highly recommend! ✨
Not bad but not my favourite of Paul's breakfasts. Maybe some fresh fruit would add to it?
Made it for the first time today. I was curious about the buckwheat and chocolate combination since I’ve never tried ot before - amazing! Definitly cooking it again, easy to make, quickly prepared, just the right consistency. Just beautiful.
Love the step by step cooking guide with pictures, makes it a lot easier to follow the recipe without scrolling, love the built in timer aswell, huge help.
This is cheating!! Tastes like a super indulgent treat, yet it's so healthy! I pureed some dates with my banana instead of using sirup and what can I say... 🤤 Perfect with some pomegranate seeds for some fruity freshness! You outdid yourselves, gals and guys ❤️
Yummy! But I think I will have to 1/2 the recipe next time- I couldn't finish it!
I only made one portion since I haven't tried buckwheat so far and ended up eating just half of it because the kid and husband couldn't stop stealing.❤
So good, love it!
I like buckwheat a lot but this wasn't good.
So chocolatey, added hemp seeds and it was delicious.
Huge portion but very good
My first time trying buckwheat and I have to admit I was skeptical, but this was fantastic!
I had never tasted buckwheat before, and it's a lovely way to start. It's a filling breakfast, sweet and warm breakfast for those of us living and working during a cold winter somewhere. I would recommend you try!
Soo yummy!
Perfect for chocolate lovers :)
Next time I'll skip the sesame seeds from the topping and maybe swap up tahini to another butter. But all in all, this is a nice variation to the almighty oatmeal. Thx!
I have been wanting to try it since I saw the picture and today was the day! I love it, it's as wholesome as it gets :)
Love this recipe! So easy to make and super delicious 🥰 Thanks for sharing!
I loved the taste of this porridge! Not too sweet, and very filling. Definitely will cook it again but just in a smaller portion. Btw, extra thank you for so many portion size options 💙
Awesome recipe! Made it a couple of times now and I really, really enjoy it! Plus it also helps me avoid my usual morning rush since it takes a bit longer time and care to make compared to just a simple sandwich. I have a more relaxing start to the day!
This was my first time trying buckwheat! I didn’t have maple syrup so I used honey instead and it was really tasty! Thanks for the recipe :)
It's been a few months of consistently making this recipe and I have to come on here and say just how obsessed I am with this dish! It's the perfect post-workout meal and I can't get enough!
Thank you so much for sharing this. Life-changing! :D
If you're finding this recipe difficult to digest, i.e. it makes you feel overly tired or bloated after eating, you can solve this by soaking the buckwheat in cold water for approximately 30 minutes before cooking. Add the buckwheat to your pot, fill it halfway with cold water from the tap, and then add a couple ice cubs before stirring lightly to to make sure there isn't too much buckwheat floating on the surface. Go about the rest of your morning routine, and in 30 minutes, drain the water and follow the recipe as described. In my experience, this 30 minute soak doesn't noticeably affect the cooking time.
I loved it! ❤️ This is so innovative! I never thought buckwheat could be used for breakfast and be that delicious! 😀 Congrats for the idea and realization!
I was thinking.. since I have quite little time to dedicate to prepare breakfast and my saucepan, although non-stick, doesn’t react well (the milk does stick at the bottom after all no matter the temperature and it tends to expand and go all over the place if I don’t watch it carefully), could I soak the buckwheat for sometime? With water or milk? So to reduce the cooking time and the mess in the kitchen?? 😄 what do you think?
Loved this recepie! Never tried buckwheat before, so I was a bit sceptical, but it turne out great. Also, I liked how easy it was to make it, since I am not at the first-name basis with cooking. :D My kids did not really enjoy 'the little balls', as they said, so I will try blending their portions next time.
Awesome recipe! Just Not easy to find buckwheat where i live and i have to Toast it myself :D
Interesting, never thought kasha could be used for breakfast. I'm from a culture that considered kasha to be a poor people's food. Considering one small box set me back $7, I think that's changed.
I like it, I added toasted walnuts because I love the crunch. My husband agrees, this recipe is a keeper.
Loved it 😍
Has anyone tried making it the night before and eating it cold? Unfortunately I rarely have time to make breakfast like this in the morning.
This is a game changer for me, i used to not like buckwheat before. Now i am making it for the second time for tomorrows breakfast. Last time i found the porridge a bit too thick, so now i used 1.5 cup almond milk. I also find 1 portion a bit too much for me, so i’ll have this for the next day as well.
One of my favorite breakfast recipes and it keeps me full straight till lunch!
YUM! I just stumbled upon the YouTube video featuring this recipe, and I had to try this porridge/kasha straight away . As luck would have it, I had a packet of roasted buckwheat pulled out of the cupboard already to use up for 'something' and also a frozen banana in the fridge and cacao powder to finish...
This is sooo good! I recommend anyone to try it, especially buckwheat sceptics. This will definitely become a firm favourite for me, and I suspect for my children too. Hugs and thank you!
So sorry but i really did not liked it. I so wanted to but the taste was unpalatable to me.
Excellent! Makes me look forward to breakfast!
Hello! Can I use a different whole-grain than buckwheat groats? I would like to use spelt.
I loved this recipe, and I'm not usually a fan of tahini. I had a nearly-full jar from when a friend visited not long ago, so was searching for recipes. I'm so glad I found your site! I've played around with the recipe, too, subbing applesauce for banana, and after the tahini was gone I've tried both peanut butter and almond butter. All turned out fantastic.
Teff is my usual go-to for my morning porridge, but this buckwheat porridge is a nice change. It's creamy and chewy at the same time. I like my porridge sweet so I added a couple of chopped dates as I was cooking it. It's basically dessert. I will surely make this often!
This recipe converted me into an buckwheat lover. I love the chocolate taste
Hi Team, am swathi, live in melbourne, your recipes are awesome, easy to make, very tasty too. Thankyou!
Appreciate your help!
So happy with this recipe! I often watch your videos and I'm always very impressed by your creativity and the effort you put in your recipes and videos.
Now I finally got to try a recipe out myself and I absolutely love the result!
Did you ever consider to publish your recipes in a book? I'm sure a lot of people would love that.
Thank you so much Pick up Limes and greetings from Switzerland <3
Just tried this recipe this morning with regular buckwheat (couldn't find kasha) it's delicious and so easy to make. Do happy to have found a new recipe for my breakfast 🙌❤️
I am absolutely in love with this recipe!
Made it first about a month ago. Since then I eat your kasha porrige on Sundays morning with my Family. We prepare a bunch of it, so every of us can eat a portion on some other day.
We live in Germany, but come from Poland, where pople eat buckweat quite often - but the recipes are soooo boring. It would be great if you could make subtitels in Polish- so even older generation, that doesn't speak English, could dive into your wonderful, jummy and healthy vegan world.
Thank you very much Pick up limes! You make the world a better place😋
Beautiful dish! Especially for those who can’t eat oats. Great source of fibre protein and deliciousness😘👌
I love watching your videos but I admit there are only a few recipes that I end up making myself, because I am more of an improviser in the kitchen.
For this porridge however, I saw the video went straight to the supermarket to get some buckwheat and it has become my go to breakfast when I have a bit more time in the morning ☺️
Thank you for introducing me to buckwheat as a breakfast 🙏🏼
How nourishing and delicious . I add my homemade Nutella instead (from PUL) and it’s so satisfying! Thank you PUL team ❤️🔥
Liked the recipe a lot ma'am. You can make a video on Indian Dosa too.
Keep growing 🌟 Love from India😇
Great recipe and breakfast! I added a bit more maple syrup....but that could be the Canadian in me talking 🤣
I love this recipe! I have never really enjoyed kasha, because its bitter taste which I didn’t know how to combine and make tasty dishes… I have rather preferred the raw, because its milder taste and nutrient content… However, I had more kasha on hand. So, I have tried some recipes with it, but couldn’t find something really good. And your recipe came at the right moment! Thank you very much! I really like the creamy texture and how you use the bitter taste to make something really delicious! Thank you!
Wow, wow, wow! this is the only thing i can say after tasting such a delicious breakfast!I did not add the maple syrup, but it was sweet enough for me just with the banana. Buckwheat is not appreciated enough nowadays :D. Thank you very much for the recipe! Amazing!
This breakfast was delicious and very filling!
I am trying to incorporate a wider variety of whole grains in my diet but there are not many recipes of more «adventurous» grains in the net, so I was really happy to see this. And such a delicious one!!
Thank you Sadia and Team!
What an amazing recipe! Astonishing! I am ready for more buckwheat recipes!
LOVE THIS RECIPE!!!! I have been cooking with kasha for ages now (white and roasted one) making waffles, soups and meatballs - but breakfast!!! this was heaven:) could you tell me where do you get white kasha in NL? (I usually ask my mum for sending it from Poland... but this is an expensive endeavour) Thanks <3
This was my first time cooking with buckwheat (other than buckwheat flour) and it was delicious! The toppings really levelled up the bowl and I loved the addition of mashed banana. It made a tasty alternative to oats, although oats for breakfast will always be my number one! 🙈
This is great! and definitely comfort food for me which is so surprising when it comes to kasha;-) you are a magician, thanks for all the good ideas!!!
Hey, I recently tried this recipe for breakfast, and I loved it. It was delicious and so filling at the same time.
This was delicious! For breakfast or dessert!
Love how you make eating such an adventure. Another first time buckwheat person here. This was Delicious.
Another great recipe! This was my first time having buckwheat and it was very good. I absolutely love porridge but I really loved the texture buckwheat brings compared to oats! 10/10 would recommend :-)
Kinda curious but do you think the buckwheat could be substitute with barley? If not I am still kinda curious to see a breakfast recipe using barley, just an idea.
A great suprise! It fills my love for chocolate and sweet, it is soooo satisfying. And also it makes me love hot breakfasts. I don't like oatmeal because of its mushy consistency. This one is an amazing alternative. Many thanks for this easy and delicious recipe!
Not a fan of kasha, but in this recipe it actually tasted good and you can bet I will be making it tomorrow morning, too! This is such a great idea for using up all the kasha from my pantry 🙂
Will definitely try this! The taste of buckwheat ususally makes me gag, but I would love to eat it more. Could you come up with more savoury recipes with buckwheat grain? Thanks <3
I’m the first to admit chocolate for breakfast is the last thing on my mind. I only try this recipe because I wanted to use the buckwheat in the back of my cupboard but I’m glad I did! This tastes like the chocolate custard and ice cream my mum made when we were kids. The best bit is that I didn’t feel hungry for ages.
I tried it without the cocoa powder and added some blueberries and I loved it! Thanks for this great recipe :)
This is so good! I cannot stop making this :D
Hi Sadia,
Thank you for sharing this delicious Chocolate Banana Buckwheat Porridge. I’ve tried it this morning and it was soooooo yummy 😋 🥰
Loved this porridge as a weekend treat, I added some cherry jam as a topping :)
Dear Sadia,
Is the result the same if I roast the desired amount of buckwheat on the stove right before cooking it with the milk?
Thanks for yummy recipes and high quality videos ;)
Karmen
This looked so good I had to make it straight away even though I had almond milk and cacao powder instead of soy and cocoa. It worked really well also, keeping this in my weekend breakfast rotation!
I just tried out this recipe - it is incredibly tasty! The consistence did not really work out, I will try to put less milk next time so that it won't be too liquid ;) By the way I can't wait for the Android version of your app to launch! :D I wanted to ask if the contents of the app and the blog will be the same or will there be some differences? Will the app be available for free? Thank you again for the inspiration to the whole PUL team <3
pranked my partner with this today 😎 they didnt expect buckwheat to be sweet and served as porridge. turned out fluffy and delicious! just a bit weird after eating buckwheat for dinner my whole life. by the way beware 2 portions in the recipe makes 3
This was my breakfast today. I was out of plant based milk, so I replaced it with water. Still - it was great breakfast, I will surely try it one more time. As celiac with oat alergy I really appreciate this option :)
Looks delish! One question: does the nutrition info include optional toppings or it covers the main ingredients only? I’ve started to pay a closer attention to my dietary intake so such information would be much appreciated :)
i am so excited to try this recipe! i've had a jar of buckwheat just waiting to be used for months now so this post couldn't have come at a better time. i love that i can always rely on pick up limes to teach me how to use up an ingredient lying at home.
Looks absolutely delicious!! Have to try it!
I thought kasha was only known in Eastern Europe. I will definitely try this recipe. love your recipes. Regards Kasia not Kasha 😉
