Frequently asked questions
Do I have to roast bell peppers for homemade hummus?
Roasting the bell pepper enhances its flavour and adds richness to the hummus. We don’t recommend skipping this step as the hummus will lack the depth that makes it so delicious!
Can I use pre-roasted bell pepper in this hummus recipe?
You can use pre-roasted bell pepper, but make sure the peppers are well-drained and not overly oily, as this will affect the texture and flavour of the spread.
What can you have red pepper hummus with?
It pairs well with crackers, pita bread, fresh veggies, or as a tasty spread on sandwiches and wraps
How can I make red pepper hummus smoother?
For a smoother consistency, blend the mixture for longer and consider adding a bit more vegetable oil or a touch of water. Adding more tahini or lemon juice can also help reach the desired creaminess, but be sure to give the hummus a taste test and adjust accordingly.
Can I freeze red pepper hummus?
While we haven't tested it out recently, hummus is typically best enjoyed fresh. You can freeze it in an air-tight container if desired though, the texture and flavour will likely just change slightly as the oil separates. To help with this, thaw in the refrigerator and stir well before serving.

I looove this recepie 🥹
The hummus is delicious, thank you for the recipe! 😍
The only thing is that the peppers and garlic don’t take the same time to bake. I left it for around 20mins and the garlic was burnt completely, but the peppers were perfect. So maybe bake the garlic less? Or maybe it’s just my oven. 😅
How much peppers do u use if using from a jar
Taste lovely! Made it along side some homemade pita chips.
Love this! Just made some and my 2 boys (toddler and 10 month old) are enjoying some with chia/quinoa chips and a baby cracker lol how long does this keep in the fridge?
We (my husband, our 3 year old son, and I) love this red pepper hummus! 💓
Delicious! Love the addition of Cajun powder. Just perfect, thank you!
The hummus of my life! First hummus ever made and now the only one I eat frequently. It's sooooo good 🤤
Very nice!
Not enough salt in this one, in my opinion plus it came out rather runny, even though I added 25g more chickpeas than the recipe called for. Other than that, it's a great dip for crackers and crisps.
Yummy! Love it! And my little toddler too! 🥰
Just made it. Yummy. I don’t need to buy it anymore. Recipe made around 600g in total which is 3 store size tubs which generallly cost around £4.50 for that much. So much cheaper making it yourself.
Lovely
Can I leave out balsamic vinegar or is there a specific role it plays?
Nice recipe! I don't know why, but my batch was quite sour. Next time, I will not add all of the lemon juice and vinegar right away but instead taste and add bit by bit. Thanks PUL :)
This sounds so delicious! I've printed to make today, no more store bought hummus in this home! Thanks so much x
This recipe was so delicious!!! I’m a hummus lover, and usually buy store-bought hummus but this hummus was everything and more than store-bought hummus. I’m planning on making the beetroot hummus next thank you, for sharing this delicious recipe.
I can't believe how much tasty hummus this made! Looking forward to enjoying it all week... Although it probably won't last that long! 😂 Thanks PUL 🎉
can this be freezed?
Such an easy and approachable recipe for something that tastes sooo good. Thanks ☺️
The Red Pepper Hummus recipe is tasty and not to hard to make. This is the first time I have made it myself, too.
Okay...WOW!
This was my first time ever making Hummus. It was originally meant for tomorrow's breakfast sandwich but.... hehe. Once I had finished mixing and started taste testing, I spent a good 20 mins just snacking from my bowl with bread, cucumbers etc. :D I'm not complaining though, it's so so so delicious :)
Me and my mother are big fans of this hummus. She says you could just eat it with a spoon.
I have tried this with red and yellow peppers and even tried one of your beetroot hummus recipies and they turned out really nice. Its such a good way to make use of veggies in your diet. Thank you for sharing :)
I have never attempted to make Hummus from scratch do I have a question. How long to you cook the Chickpeas? Do you just boil them? I love Hummus and would love to have fresh available whenever I wanted it!
So good! I garnished it with toasted pine nuts, some finely chopped roasted red pepper, ground oregano and a little more paprika. Great flavor and very pretty presentation!
Love this hummus!
Haven’t bought hummus ever since I’ve tried this recipe, it’s my go to. Even my super picky brother loves it, so so so yummy! 🌱🤍
This is a simple and amazingly tasty hummus! Love this. Anyone be able to do it! 😋😋😋
Slightly sweet hummus. It used up the entire jar of roasted peppers! I think I still prefer your beet and avocado hummus better.
I enjoyed this recipe, it was good!
Do you know roughly how many calories there are in this?
Just tried this delicious recipe, my first self-made hummus ever and I m absolutely enthusiastic about it. So creamy, and the flavour of the roasted bell pepper gives it a great and special twist and taste to the traditional hummus. Not expensive and easy to make....successful the first time (I m not the most talented cook ;) ) Thank you for the recipe!
I did like Agate: I used roasted bell peppers from a jar. So convenient without compromising the taste. Love this variation with bell pepper and garlic as well as the balance between sweet, sour, and umami. I really need to add more salt when I make your hummus recipes, as I use a brand that doesn’t add salt to their canned chickpeas... Which is very good though👏🏼
This is honestly the best hummus I've ever made! It has the perfect, balanced flavour and texture, makes a big batch, and is so easy to make! Thank you so much for the recipe!
Love this recipe! Its also quite quick, if your local store has roasted bell peppers in a jar. My recommendation though - don't be afraid to adjust seasoning to your taste buds. I typically add more lemon juice and add more salt in the form of soy sauce. After discovering this recipe I have stopped buying ready-made hummus - this is way more delicious and cheaper!
