Lovely recipe, doesn’t taste like sloppy Joe in my opinion but it was very easy to throw together and it was filling
So so so good! Will be making this again.
This turned out to be delicious! This is definitely going to be a go- to recipe for me.
We’ve unfortunately discovered my boyfriend is allergic to lentils - any suggestions for a lentil substitute for this recipe? x
i made this on a camping trip and everyone was a big fan, it was really fun to dole out the tasks and came together well with a campfire for the buns and a camping stove for the lentils
The lentil turned out so good!
These sloppy joes were an absolute hit! The lentil filling was packed with flavor, and the crunchy coleslaw added a perfect fresh balance. My husband couldn’t stop raving about them! I’ll definitely be making these again soon!
Really yummy
The combination of sweet, sour and umami taste is great.
Next time we will try it without the bellpepper because for us it's to dominantly in this dish.
Delicious! Makes heaps
So incredibly satisfying! Another fantastic recipe. We enjoyed it even without the coriander and cumin (ran out!). The cole slaw was delicious by itself too!
I was so excited to try this recipe b/c sloppy Joes are nostalgic for me but the flavor profile is missing something. I had to sub vegetable seasoning for vegetable bouillon b/c I couldn’t find one without msg. It still tastes good but I’m missing that sweet, tangy flavor of the real thing.
Made this for a measurement of 2 people. It turned out to be for 5 people. I used gourmet hamburger buns. Toasted it with butter along with mayo and melted vegan cheese on it. It is a very filling dish.
Ok this recipe is SO GOOD!!
One of our go-to weeknight dinners! Pre-cooking the lentils and having them ready to go makes weeknight meals a breeze. Homemade whole wheat sourdough rolls make these even more delicious than they already are!
I've never had a Sloppy Joe before, so this was fun to try - I can see how it got it's name 😂 I love using lentils as a base for anything meaty and this was really tasty. The slaw was the perfect topping too, so don't skip that! Really easy to make and it makes plenty so it'd be good for a meal prep idea too.
These are a super hit with our family. Thanks!
Best sloppy joes ever 😊
I ate mine over roasted potatoes! Delicious!
So excited to try this! What is the measurement of 1 serving? Thanks.
Made this for dinner and loved it!
This is one of my favourites on the app. Absolutely wonderful.
Flavourful and messy. Love it.
Made these with homemade buns, homemade air fl-fried fries and it was all a hit!
So good!
I added 1 tsp of vegan Worcestershire sauce and subbed a vegan beef flavoured bouillon instead of veggie.
Another winner 🥇
I liked this recipe a lot! I made a few tweaks: left out the maple syrup and added some pickled jalapenos along with the red pepper! Would definitely make this again 🥰
I also maybe made too much for just me and will freeze half of it
These are so delicious!
These are great (and I'm not usually a fan of lentils). Definitely make the slaw too(and maybe make extra slaw sauce too). I almost skipped it and am so glad I didn't. Thank you!
Oh yum. Easy and tasty. That's getting saved!!
Another delicious meal!
Another solid recipe - thank you!
Wow 🤩 the family was all jokes about a vegan sloppy Joe until they were asking for seconds and if they could pack the leftovers in their lunches 😂 even my 5 year old gave this 2 thumbs up 👍🏽
Very tasty 😋
Very tasty 😋
A+ summer meal! Just had some friends over and made these and they were a HIT. Absolutely delicious. We each ate one and immediately wanted a second but were too full. I will definitely be making these again and again. Am considering adding some finely chopped/crushed walnut to the pan to simmer with everything next time for an added textural element, but it’s not a need, just a want.
Oh my goodness, these were so delicious! They were my first time trying Sloppy Joe's and I can see what I've been missing out on! I swapped the lentils for crumbled extra firm tofu and they worked a treat. The way the filling paired with the homemade slaw was next level. 5 star all around (especially as I made the PUL Garlic & Basil Potato Wedges on the side!).
These remind me of my childhood sloppy joes. My mom would make them with lentils, too. So good!
*chef’s kiss* 🤌 This recipe is perfect! The ingredients for the lentil sloppy Joe mixture are perfect + made me so nostalgic! That paired w/ the slaw - incredible! I see what the hype is about + this will be devoured quickly. 10/10 💟
I like the filling. It can go very well on its own as a lentil stew or fill little gem leaves with it.
Next time I’ll try adding some vegan ground “beef” to the lentils for some crunchy texture
Pretty good. Straightforward to make and good flavor.

Hi! Do you think TVP be used instead of lentils?

Very good and quick to make with canned lentils. Used napa cabbage and carrot for the coleslaw. Wonderful flavors-thank you!
SO GOOD. (And also so sloppy! Have napkins ready.🙂) I usually don’t like lentils much, nor am I the biggest fan of slaw, but I was pleasurably surprised at how much I loved this recipe. It all worked together so nicely and was incredibly flavorful and balanced. Couldn’t put it down! Definitely will be making again.
And like someone else said: if you can find pre-cooked lentils (and even a bag of pre-shredded slaw mix), this recipe will come together much faster than the estimated time .
Okay wow this was 🔥!!
I agree...holy moly! I was out of coriander and omitted the hot sauce as my hubby and I can't do spicy, but these were fabulous! A blast from the past, tasted just like sloppy joes from my childhood 😊
What else can I say but holy moly?! I’ve made vegan sloppy joes before but this recipe is insane! Comes together so quickly with pre cooked lentils. Absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to see if the kiddos like it as well. Didn’t have red peppers but added celery instead. Thank you.
