Ingredients
-
⅔ cup (147 g)brown sugar, packed
-
½ cup (120 mL)unsweetened soy milk
-
-
1 tsp (5 g)baking powder
-
¾ tspbaking soda
-
½ tspinstant coffee granules (optional)
-
½ tspsalt
-
2 cups (276 g)all-purpose flour
-
Directions
- In a large bowl, cream together the coconut oil and brown sugar using a fork.
- Then add the milk, cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla, baking powder, baking soda, instant coffee, and salt. Mix well. The mixture might look a bit clumpy, and that's okay*.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Add the flour to the bowl and stir until just combined. Careful to not over-mix.
- Then gently fold in the chopped chocolate.
- Form little balls out of the dough and evenly distribute, about 2 inches (5 cm) apart, on a lined baking tray.
- To decorate, add a few bits of chopped chocolate to the top of each cookie. Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 12 - 14 minutes.
- Let cool on the tray for a bit before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy!
Notes
- †Refined coconut oil is coconut oil that doesn't smell or taste like coconuts. If you prefer a distinct coconut taste, use unrefined coconut oil instead. The coconut oil needs to be solid for this recipe, and not melted. If the oil is soft, place it in the fridge until hardened.
- * If the temperature is warm where you are, consider chilling this mixture in the fridge for 30 minutes to firm up, otherwise, the cookies may spread too much when baking.
Storage
- Store in an airtight container on the counter for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 1 month.

The ultimate chocolate cookie. 12/10!!
Easy & good!
Hello! Would you be able to make this with cacao powder instead of cocoa powder... I know they are a bit different, so do you think I'd have to alter the recipe a lot to make it work out?
Nice taste, very easy to make 😊
these are lovely! They were more cakey than i had anticipated but still nice :) I think personally I would bake them for a little less time to get them a bit fudgier
hello :) i want to ask why it can be stored in the freezer only up to one month. is it because of the taste changing or will it actually become bad? thank you
Planning to make these. What is the difference between brown sugar and, for example, white sugar? And do you mean the Dutch “basterdsuiker” with brown sugar or something else? I am always confused by all the different kind of sugars in recipes and prefere not to have 5 kinds of sugar in my kitchen..
So yummy!
Love these! They satisfy my chocolate 🍫 craving 😋. Yum!
I made with gluten-free flour and they were still really good! This recipe will be in our dessert rotation. Thanks Pick up Limes!
We could not wait for the cooling...thats how good they are
The *most* amazing chocolate cookies I have ever tasted! I cannot have enough and have already shared the recipe with friends and family. These cookies also freeze very well, so I take them out to defrost one-by-one and can, therefore, enjoy them for days on end! Oh - a heavenly treat.
These cookies were a big hit at an event I brought them too— they are delicious!
Cakey, gooey, chocolatey goodness. 🍫😋
Really easy to make, such a delicious treat 😋
Delicious and easy to assemble. Will try with 1-to-1 GF flour next time.
So indulgent! I had a massive chocolate cookie craving, so I made this into 4 big cookies instead of 10. They were to die for. The crunch on the edges, the softness on the inside, and the melted chocolate, it was all perfect. This will be my go-to cookie recipe from now on.
Second time I try it, still amazing 🧑🍳👌
Replace chocolate bits by pistachios and walnuts
Can you substitute the wheat flour for buckwheat to make it gluten-free?
These are VERY tasty but the two pans I made both spread. I even put the second pan in the fridge for a bit before I baked but they came out all smooshed LOL. My son and I still enjoyed. I’m thinking maybe I need to make the ball a bit smaller and freeze next time?
👌👌👌
I don’t think I can count how many times I’ve made this recipe in my life. I love it so much!
Buonissimi 🤤❤️
So good! Used regular coconut oil because I love the chocolate and coconut combo, it was very rich in both flavours and went down among the adults and youngest niece at the family gathering
More cakey and not as sweet as I'd have liked - I have a sweet tooth! My housemate loves them though.
So easy and delicious
I love this recipe so much and I've made it about 20 times already. Everyone I know loves these cookies!!
In Switzerland, as Dutch processed cocoa powder, I just use Caotina powder (which is vegan, too). Works perfectly!
Absolutely delicious!!
Delicious!
The cookies are yumm. However my batter was watery and it took 20 minutes to bake it.
I skipped shredded coconut. How could I have made i better ? or what mistake would i had made ?
The cookies are just cooling down. We can't wait to taste them. 🤤
These bad boys taste phenomenal. I will say they are a cakey type of cookie; however, they are delicious, nonetheless. I actually remember making these cookies three years ago, and they spread out so much! I remembered this once I started the recipe and couldn’t believe I had forgotten. Remembering this, I decided to refrigerate the cookie dough for 20 minutes to allow the coconut oil to harden and make the process of rolling them into balls easier. They actually turned out this time! Yay! Excellent recipe PUL Team!
These were really good but they ended up being more cakey than chewy. Still an excellent recipe!
I make these cookies all the time for friends! Everyone loves them!
these are such a crowd pleaser!!
Delicious! It was perfect for my chocolate craving.
Very chocolate-y! Great dark chocolate flavor without being overly sweet.
Love!!
My all time favourite from a long time ago already! Happy it found its way on the app as well!
Tasty and easy !
So good! Substituted cocoa for cacao powder. Crisp outside and fudgy inside. Best of both worlds between cookie and brownie and super simple recipe to follow.
Soooo definitely do this recipe exactly how they have it. I didn’t have a few ingredients so I subbed them (vegan butter instead of c. Oil, cane sugar instead of agave) and the consistency I got was nothing like the images (tastes amazing) but baking made it dry and brownie-like.
I used the dough and made them into “raw” brownie bites. Rolled them into coconut flakes and some in chopped cashews. Delicious. But definitely wanted to cookies 😂
Very tasty! Easy and quick to make.
Wonderfully easy and scrumptious to eat!
Amazing Stuff as usual, you guys are making vegan baking such a joy, thank you !
Tellement bons! Coucou du Québec 😊
I make these cookies so often. They are fun to make and soooo Good!
These cookies are perfect! Not too sweet not too heavy. ❤️ This new app is outstanding. Bravo 👏🏼
These cookies are perfectly chocolate-y! Yum 😋 so good. Thanks for another amazing recipe!
Yummy 🤤
This was so tasty! My boyfriend and I made it together and we could hardly wait for them to cool down a bit before eating!! So good!
These cookies tasted good however mine came out very puffy and cakey. I followed the recipe as stated. I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong. I flattened them slightly before baking and baked them for 12 minutes . How can I make them flatter and more chewy and not cakey?
My family loves these cookies! This is our go to recipe now when we need a chocolate fix.
Whenever I bake these for friends, I get asked for the recipe. The best chocolate cookies ever! Thank you
Hi Sadia
Hope u keeping well.
Could I use gluten free flour in this recipe?
Came out amazing. I used unrefined coconut oil. Loved them.
The best chocolate vegan cookies I ever tried <3 Also my family and friends Love them!!
A perfect treat for a rainy day. Didn’t have chocolate on hand but the cookies still came out tasting good. I added walnuts to half the batch.
Can you make these with whole wheat flour? Thanks!❤️
These are so tasty. The texture is nice, it’s a rich chocolate without being too sweet and they’re pretty too. Thank you.
Have not made it yet, but love the ingredients and looks so yummy. Will make it for the holiday family gathering/. Thank you.
The cookies were fun to make and I loved it because it was chocolate. We bought the wrong cocoa powder but it was still delicious!
Is it okay if i use liquid coconut oil instead of the solid one ?
Loved it! It came out perfect. It could be less sweet for my personal taste, but it does not change the fact that this recipe is hidden gold.
Thank you a lot.
Love this recipe! Simple to make, but utterly delicious! :)
Best cookies ever! I bake them for all my friends and guests and they always come out great! 11/10 points!
The most beautiful vegan cookies! Make them now for years, and everyone love it! Thank you for this beautiful receipt ♥️
These are soo good ! We substitute Earth Balance butter substitute for the coconut oil. We noticed coconut oil has 12grams of saturated fat per tablespoon compared to 3grams per tablespoons of Earth Balance.
I have only tried a few of your recipes but all of them were lovely!! They came out perfectly!!
I can’t wait to try these! I stumbled across your website today and I’m hooked!!!!
Can the cane sugar be omitted? If so are there any modifications you’d recommend?
Wow, I made these cookies for my husband and he absolutely loved them! This will become my go-to cookie recipe!!
Thank you, these cookies are an absolute winner!
My family love them💕 used agave syrup instead. And they absolutely love them and my 2 yr old daughter was tearing it up. Thank you so much!
Super delicious and so easy to make!
Sadia and all the PUL Team: these cookies are amazing! Thank you so much ❤
THEY ARE PERFECT!!,!
Hi Sadia,
If I make extra cookie dough and freeze it, would it work? For how long can I keep in freezer before baking cookies? And when I want to bake them, what procedure should I follow for thawing the dough? Please let me know. I am planning to make them soon for Christmas so it would help to batch make the dough for future!
The best cookie recipe! I've been searching it for a while now... <3 Thank you enormously!
Love this recipe!
I also love the option of changing amounts, that system is so great and makes everything easier.
For baking, in my oven 12 minutes worked perfectly 🥰 Thank you 💖
They are absolutely delicious! I decided to try and used mostly (3/4 more or less) ground walnuts as a flour base and they turned out really nice. Not so gooey but very soft and with a hint of nutty flavour. Very much autumn vibe :) Next time will probably make a double batch just to save time :D
I really enjoy being here, Sadia :)
I've been making a lot of recipes from your website and absolutely love every single one. This cookie recipe though, is the most decadent and rich recipe I've made by far. I made them on a whim and all of my friends and family absolutely loved them! I can't thank you all enough for putting these awesome recipes together and sharing them with us. You all are the absolute best! <3
The most delicious biscuits I've ever made. They have the perfect moist and they are so chocolaty....I can't have just one 😊
On top I put chocolate and chopped hazelnuts. It was an easy recipe and the best part was that you can make it with only a fork and a spoon.
Congrats to the team once again!!!
Turned out so good! I used 3 Tbsp of honey in place of maple syrup and half a Tbsp of corn starch. Corn starch makes the cookie crispy on the top.
Luv your recipes Sadia 💕
These are so easy & quick to make and so delicious. I actually used whole wheat flour (I had run out of normal flour) and they still were really tasty !
Made 2 batches of these delicious cookies for a big family gathering in an olive farm on the mountains! 🏔 Needless to say these cookies were AWESOME, light, and chocolaty and were a good end to a beautiful day. Everyone was asking me for the recipe and they FLIPPED when I told them it doesn’t have eggs or butter! So happy with how they turned out 🥺💛
These turned out so yummy! Which was seriously surprising since my dough was soup until I added the flour and everyone kept asking what that horrible smell was. Apparently, none of us like the smell of coconut oil baking, lol. But they are seriously good!
Is it possible to make these gluten free?
These cookies are so delicious! I‘ve made them many times. Thank you so much for the recipe!! I store them in a glass jar since they hardened quite a bit in an airtight container. So yum 😍
Another incredible recipe you guys! I struggled a bit making it as my coconut oil was completely liquid and then way too hard after I put it in the fridge but the final result was well worth it. I used white sugar instead of brown and honey instead of maple syrup as I had run out of them and they turned out perfect (in case someone is in a similar same situation). Another win for PUL!
I think I fell in love when I ate these cookies ♡ Before I was vegan, cookies were my favourite thing to make, and after going vegan, I thought I would never find the perfect cookie recipe again. But after trying these, all my cookie concerns have gone away! These are without a doubt the best cookies I have ever tasted, and they're super simple to make too! I made some for my friends, and we had them with ice cream, and it was incredible!!
I love this recipe, its really the best chocolate cookie ever and pretty simple. I make them often as a treat, it is great with a latte or a cup of earl-grey tea.
The flavor is really good on these cookies and they're good when warm out of the oven, but were a bit on the dry side when cooled. We followed the recipe exactly, but the texture was a lot more crumbly than the dough in the video.
These cookies are delicious! I made a double recipe and brought them to a potluck and almost all were eaten! Also no one guessed that these were vegan :-). By the way I used vegan margarine instead of the coconut oil because I didn't have that and it turned out great. This is definitely one of my favorite recipes!
Must try! Absolutely decadent and OH SO YUM!
Absolutely delicious and easy to make! I love this recipe!
Such an easy fool-proof recipe that gives us the perfect chocolatey chewy satisfaction every single time. They don’t last long out the oven :D
Made these cookies before and loved them so much! So chewy, easy to make, and not too sweet. I have one or two every single afternoon as a snack!
The best Cookies ever! They always come out great und everyone loves them!
🍪Best recipe for #cannabis cookies! It's like tasting heavens medicine!💊
Just made these cookies, the house if filled with a chocolatey smell and they are delicious!!!
I just made a batch of these and they are so delicious! I watched the video before baking them and Sadia stated clearly that the coconut oil should be solid, but summer has been intense over here lately so my coconut oil was completely melted haha. Didn’t have patience to put it into the fridge and wait, so I used dairy-free butter instead. Worked out great!
Le côté "chewy" est indéniable et pour les goûter du week-end, c'est idéal. Meilleurs mangés vite quand même ^^
Oh my god, I've made this recipe like a 100 times already. It's so easy and usally I have all the ingredients somewhere in the house so it's never any trouble for me to make them. My family is also obsessed with them, the cookies never make the night haha. The outside it crunchy, the inside chewy and the chocolate also gets hard after a while, which adds another crunch to it. I am just completely in love with them :)
Hey definitely trying this one out. How would it affect the cookies if I use normal sugar instead of brown?
If anyone tells you that vegan desert can't be as good as "normal" one, make them these, guys...I can't describe the amazingness of those cookies.
This are the best cookies ever thank you pick up lines team
Hi, while I love this recipe, I find it difficult to measure solid oil by the cup or ml. Could you please add the weight of the 120ml of coconut oil? Thanks!
Hi guys! Hope you are all safe. I tried these cookies but my dough is very dry, difficult to combine to make balls. Any suggestions?
The cookies are fantastic! The only thing is I had to add alot more milk, is it because I used wholegrain flour? Anyways, thanks so much for this delicious recipe!
This looks delicious!
I was wondering, can i use coconut sugar instead of brown sugar?
Thanks!
First cookie receipt I have ever tried! Love how chewy it is. Thank you
Hi,
Can i substitute the AP flour for whole grain flour or oat flour in this recipe? Thanks:)
I make these almost every week, my friends and family can't get enough of them! So delicious!
