Matcha is a fine powder made from green tea leaves. While traditionally matcha was just enjoyed as a beverage, nowadays it has found its way into various culinary creations. While higher-quality matcha, such as premium grade is usually used for drinks, in this cookie recipe, we opt for a culinary grade matcha which boasts a subtle bitterness that beautifully complements the sweetness of vegan white chocolate.

These are lovely. I think even if you weren’t a huge fan of matcha you would still like them. Only thing I am disappointed in is I made a half batch to test and they’re all gone!

Martunia - March 9, 2025, 8:27 p.m.

Absolutely delicious! Mine didn't spread almost at all, though, so the first batch came out ball-shaped. I had to flatten the second batch a bit before baking, and that did the trick.

Dascha - Jan. 12, 2025, 10:26 a.m.

I am intending to make these cookies for quite a while now, but always delay it due to white chocolate being one if the ingredients- white chocolate is not my cup of tea. Could you please recommend some substitutions? So that I can finally start on the making without any hesitations)

PUL small logo PUL Team - Jan. 13, 2025, 6:16 p.m.

Hi there, Dascha! If white chocolate isn’t your thing, you could swap it for vegan dark chocolate or perhaps even dairy-free chocolate chips for a richer flavour. Let us know if you give any modifications a try :)

Ákos - Jan. 11, 2025, 8:24 p.m.

They didn't melt in the oven, but instead stayed as balls... I don't know what I did wrong, but taste-wise they're amazing and were a crowd pleaser! Will make them again

Alma Herrera Hjalmarsson - Jan. 8, 2025, 7:30 p.m.

I absolutely love these cookies. I sometimes freeze them in their ball shape and bake them whenever I want a fresh out of the oven cookie.

Karen - Dec. 4, 2024, 3:23 a.m.

Hi, love this! Wondering how can I maintain the circular shape of a cookie? Some look like melted 🙈 thank you.

PUL small logo PUL Team - Dec. 4, 2024, 3:30 p.m.

Hi Karen, it sounds like the butter in your cookies might have been too soft before baking, which can cause them to spread too much in the oven. To prevent this, try rolling the dough into balls and chilling them on a tray in the fridge for 30–60 minutes before baking.

If the cookies still spread a bit, you can use a cookie cutter or a round cup slightly larger than the cookies. Place it around the edges of the cookie right after baking, and gently move it in a circular motion to reshape it.

For even better results, it helps to weigh your ingredients in grams if you have a kitchen scale—it's much more precise than using cups and tablespoons. I hope this helps, and I’d love to hear how it goes if you decide to give the cookies another try! 😊

Maryna - Sept. 24, 2024, 10:36 p.m.

Those are really nice! Next time I’ll try adding less sugar and less baking soda.

Eva - Sept. 24, 2024, 1:28 a.m.

One of my favorites!

Louise - Aug. 18, 2024, 1:05 p.m.

These have the perfect 👌 amount of matcha! I used the white chocolate from jumbo and that worked very well.

Phillipa - June 24, 2024, 4:42 p.m.

These were delicious! We are making them again today. I did like the batch that did a bit too long because they almost caramelised around the edges. Yummy!
I would like to try to do a version of this with less sugar, perhaps it's something you could consider for those of us who are trying to use less sugar in our baking? The matcha flavour is great.

PUL small logo PUL Team - June 25, 2024, 11:27 p.m.

Hi Phillipa, so glad that you enjoyed the recipe and thanks for the recipe request 😊

Noah - June 3, 2024, 9:48 p.m.

My girlfriend loves matcha, I don't. White chocolate on the other hand, I love. So this was the perfect cookie for us both. I like how it has the subtle matcha flavor — making it more earthy — without it tasting grassy or any of the negative flavors I personally associate with matcha. And it really hits the sweet spot (pun intended) for that classic cookie craving.
We're a big fan of this one!

PUL small logo PUL Team - June 5, 2024, 12:18 a.m.

Yayy how exciting to hear this, Noah 🙌 thank you for the lovely review!

Jennifer - May 8, 2024, 3:34 a.m.

I made one tweak that I really liked! I added 50g of almond flour and 220g of AP flour. I liked the flavor and texture it brought. I do feel like these are just a green tinted sugar cookie unfortunately, so not super impressed and a bit bummed I used a whole TBS of matcha since it’s expensive. It was a bit sweet for my taste, so I would reduce the sugar. It is a tasty cookie, just a bit sweet for my taste and not much of a matcha flavor.

Kaylee - May 5, 2024, 10:22 p.m.

Really good, I made mine with dark chocolate and they tasted wonderful.

Deborah - May 1, 2024, 8:57 a.m.

Hi, what white chocolate suits? The white chocolate in Jumbo supermarket doesn’t melt nicely.

PUL small logo PUL Team - May 1, 2024, 11:18 a.m.

Hey Deborah, we indeed used the ones from Jumbo - we thought it worked rather nicely :)

Charlotte - April 28, 2024, 7:51 p.m.

I'm pretty new to the white chocolate-matcha game and I'm already a huge fan! These cookies were truly awesome and even my partner, who usually doesn't enjoy matcha, loved them! I used GF oat flour to make them gluten free and I was happy with how they turned out.

PUL small logo PUL Team - April 30, 2024, 3:34 a.m.

So happy to hear the gluten-free twist was a success, Charlotte! Happy baking ☺️

Sarai - April 8, 2024, 12:35 a.m.

This was such an amazing recipe. I was skeptical with the dough not having the consistency of cookie that I’m use to. I took this to an even and made a double batch. They were gone in 20 minutes! Definitely will make again

PUL small logo PUL Team - April 8, 2024, 4:10 a.m.

Woo we're so happy to hear that the cookies were enjoyed, Sarai!

Aileen - March 27, 2024, 5:42 a.m.

These cookies are delicious! If I’m being completely honest though, they taste more like regular sugar cookies. I am a HUGE matcha fan, and I also love white chocolate, so I had high hopes for these. I will certainly devour the remaining cookies, but I will add additional matcha next time.

Tea H. - March 16, 2024, 6:58 a.m.

So so so so yummy, my partner said these are the best cookies I’ve made yet. Thank you!!

Yara Rosenboom Alves - March 14, 2024, 10:54 a.m.

hello, is it the same if i make the dough today and only bake the cookies tomorrow? is the expiry the same?

PUL small logo PUL Team - March 15, 2024, 6:35 a.m.

Hey Yara, the dough can definitely be prepped ahead of time! Just let the dough rest out of the fridge for about 15 minutes before baking. And indeed the storage time will be the same 😊

Sedef - March 4, 2024, 8:34 a.m.

For this recipe, may I use oat flour instead?

PUL small logo PUL Team - March 5, 2024, 4:51 a.m.

Hi Sedef! We can't say for certain as we haven't tried it before, but with some experimenting, it may be possible. We'd recommend trying half oat and half all-purpose flour to start and see if you like it. All-purpose flour has gluten in it, which helps give it the classic structure of a cookie. Oat flour might not offer this, but it might be a fun one to experiment with 🙂 and if you do, let us know how it goes!

Marguerite De Valois - Feb. 26, 2024, 11:22 a.m.

Super recette de cookies. Le goût est trop sucré, il faut enlever le sucre blanc et c'est parfait

Jan - Feb. 16, 2024, 9:14 a.m.

Very delicious combination with the white chocolate and the matcha 😍

Trini - Jan. 29, 2024, 8:03 p.m.

These cookies are like a little heaven in your mouth. Will definitely be making them again…

Marc Egnal - Jan. 4, 2024, 4 p.m.

Amazing tasting cookie and easy recipe to follow! Will be making these often in the future

Andy - Jan. 4, 2024, 3:53 p.m.

My favourite cookies ever! Better than the matcha cookies I had at a cafe recently. My friends love them too 😍

PUL small logo PUL Team - Jan. 4, 2024, 10:35 p.m.

Aww we're so happy that the matcha cookies are being enjoyed, Andy, thank you! ☺️

Fangxing - Dec. 17, 2023, 6:46 a.m.

I made this for my company’s cookie competition and won! If I make again for myself, I would slightly reduce sugar and flour.

PUL small logo PUL Team - Dec. 18, 2023, 4:43 a.m.

Congrats on the big win, Fangxing 🥳 thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the cookies 😊

Greta Klimaviciute-M - Dec. 8, 2023, 5:29 p.m.

Perfect🤤💚💚💚

Sara Casaer - Dec. 5, 2023, 7:19 p.m.

Delicious

Melanie - Nov. 9, 2023, 2:46 p.m.

Made these for a cookie exchange. They are so cute shaped in a star. They are delicious. Not too sweet just perfect.
My kids tried them and loved them. My husband says this is now his favourite cookie. He said it’s like a shortbread type cookie.

Merve - Nov. 7, 2023, 4:39 p.m.

Delicious! I used dark chocolate chips instead of white chocolate. For my four year old kid, they are called now monster cookies 😅 I haven’t come across until now a single PUL recipe which failed me. Whenever I ask my husband if he can guess where the recipe is from, he says if it is this good it must be from Sadia 😎

PUL small logo PUL Team - Nov. 9, 2023, 10:01 a.m.

Awww haha this made my day, Merve, thank you! Lots of love to you and the fam 💕

Emily Saunders - Oct. 19, 2023, 1:39 a.m.

These are so tasty!! Will definitely make again :)

Amelia - Sept. 26, 2023, 4:33 a.m.

Actually pleasantly surprised how good these were. Would recommend!

Lis Siebenaler - Sept. 25, 2023, 9:47 p.m.

These taste amazing! One of the best cookie recipe I followed so far!! You have to try it out, I used dark chocolate chunks and they were delicious

Sarah - Sept. 1, 2023, 1:50 p.m.

Soooo good!!

Christine - Aug. 11, 2023, 3:29 p.m.

Best cookies ever

Birthe - Aug. 11, 2023, 8:32 a.m.

Just obsessed - that matcha and white chocolate combination is a dream😍

Molly - Aug. 10, 2023, 10:07 p.m.

These look delicious! Does anyone have a vegan white chocolate they could recommend? The only one I have tried i didn’t like so much

PUL small logo PUL Team - Aug. 10, 2023, 10:39 p.m.

Hey Molly, I can share for the 2 countries I've lived in, if it helps. We tend to use the iChoc, Zimt, or King David brands when in Canada. And when in the Netherlands, the Jumbo superstore carries a house brand of vegan white chocolate 😊

Brandy - Aug. 7, 2023, 3:44 p.m.

I just made them and although the taste is nice, my cookies spread a lot. I followed the recipe nicely but I don’t know why it spread so much. Is it because I put the oven on 10m before baking? Please some info. Thank you

PUL small logo PUL Team - Aug. 7, 2023, 3:56 p.m.

Hi Brandy, might I ask if you placed the dough in the fridge (step 3) for at least an hour before baking? This step should have helped to avoid excess spreading in the oven 🤓

Brandy - Aug. 7, 2023, 4:03 p.m.

I took step 3 and the other steps seriously

PUL small logo PUL Team - Aug. 7, 2023, 4:18 p.m.

Okay great! My only theory now is that the fat content of vegan butters can vary from brand to brand, and perhaps your brand has a higher fat content than the one we use, and this is what can cause excess spreading. Two thoughts in case you try it again: 1) in case you measured using the cup measurement, I'd recommend weighing it out as this provides more accuracy, and 2) if you already did this, then knowing your butter may simply be more fatty, you can increase the flour slightly to offset this. I hope this helps!

Erin - Aug. 1, 2023, 10:47 p.m.

Incredible!!! Perfect subtle matcha flavor, I’m I obsessed 😍

Helga - July 28, 2023, 2:02 a.m.

This become my fav cookies. I share with my colleagues at work and everyone love it😁

Melis Örnekoğlu Selçuk - July 26, 2023, 8:43 p.m.

I can easily say that this is the best cookie I have ever had with Matcha! I love its texture, crispy exterior and fudgy center. I think I will always keep some dough in my freezer for sudden sweet cravings. Thank you for the great recipe!

PUL small logo PUL Team - July 27, 2023, 5:57 a.m.

A maaassive compliment, Melis, thank you! Enjoy the cookies 🤗

Evelyn - July 23, 2023, 6:20 p.m.

Really nice recipe! As CJ suggested earlier, I also used half spelt flour. Next time I will try whole grain flour. :-) Difficult not to eat them all at once!

PUL small logo PUL Team - July 26, 2023, 9:57 p.m.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the recipe, Evelyn! Let us know how whole grain flour goes 😊

Angelique Armstrong - July 21, 2023, 12:10 a.m.

Absolutely delicious and a winner cookie recipe!

CJ - July 19, 2023, 7:28 a.m.

Absolutely delicious! 😻
I put half of the flour from spelt to get more variety in grains.

Very delicious 🤤 I will definitely make them again

Luzie - July 17, 2023, 10:02 p.m.

I remember seeing the behind-the-scenes-making of these cookies in a video a while ago and so I was really excited to finally see the recipe here. Really glad I tried them! I'm not usually a big fan of matcha but these cookies were super delicious! Thanks PUL team!

PUL small logo PUL Team - July 18, 2023, 12:11 a.m.

Yayyy so happy the cookies were enjoyed, Sam, especially after the wait! Thank you 🥰

Veronica Lazzarinetti - July 12, 2023, 7:27 a.m.

Delicious. I recently purchased Ryze Matcha! Prefect for making these cookies
