Having never had orzo before I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a simple weekday meal. I think I'd put some paprika or something in it next time though for a bit of flavour. And maybe some extra veggies.

Claire - Jan. 21, 2025, 1:16 a.m.

Extremely soupy but simmered uncovered for 10 more min and it absorbed most of the liquid. Flavor needed a bit of zhushing up.

Delicious and simple! Great for a weeknight meal. Got my six-year-old’s thumbs up of approval as well.
I substituted smoked tofu for the bacon bits and would personally recommend adding a little more than the recipe calls for.

Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with the recipe, Tim! It's always a big compliment when the little ones enjoy a recipe 🤩

Loved this one! Super easy and quick to make- tasty too 😁 I didn’t have basil so missed that out and had some sprouting broccoli that needed eating so threw that in to cook with the orzo 🥦 Thank you!!

This recipe is a family favorite, we eat it easily twice a month. I have a question regarding the bouillon cube. There are a ton of options when it comes to those cubes, but how do I find good ones? Which ingredients should be in there and which shouldn't be in there at all? Is there a difference between the sticky and crumbly cubes or the powder? Using them feels like adding a highly processed food item into my home cooking. Maybe this is a topic for a video?

PUL small logo PUL Team - Oct. 21, 2024, 3:01 p.m.

Hi Amarekratio, thanks for the questions 😊 We enjoy using bouillon cubes occasionally for their convenience and the burst of flavour they add. Bouillion cubes are higher in sodium and sometimes have other additives. Plant-based lifestyles including a variety of whole foods generally don’t have excess amounts of sodium, though, so we enjoy some higher-sodium meals occasionally. The cubes are also often used in meals that make several servings, so it ends up being not as much per serving as well.

In case it helps for reference, we typically use cubes from our local store called Albert Heijn, it's their house brand, and sometimes we get a brand called Maggi. Any type or brand will do though! The vegetable bouillon cube and water can also be substituted for equal parts vegetable stock or broth, adding salt to taste as needed if you prefer. We've added this as a topic for a future video or article to expand on 🤗✨

Nour Dukmak - Sept. 10, 2024, 3:40 a.m.

I didn’t have bacon bits, so I used carrots flavored with maple syrup, soy sauce, paprika, and garlic powder, putting them in with the onions and garlic. Delicious 😋

Ooo carrots are a lovely idea, Nour - so glad that the recipe was enjoyed 🙌

Great recipe!! I used some tips in the comments like swapping corn for peas. Also I added roasted bell peppers. Thank you :)

DenisaS - May 5, 2024, 6:51 p.m.

Super tasty! 🤩 Its on my list of quick lazy meals :)) And because snail ate my basil in the garden, I added some fresh spinach leaves, also delicious 👌10/10

Jennifer Tijssen - March 6, 2024, 6:21 p.m.

Loved this! I added some peas, roasted bell pepper and tomatoes for extra veggies, and just a little mustard to cut through the creaminess with a bit of bite. Oh and I used plant based chipolata sausages instead of bacon. All in all I think this is a great base recipe to make your own!

We're so thrilled to hear that the recipe was enjoyed, Jennifer, thank you! 😊

Hannah C. Rosenblatt - Feb. 14, 2024, 8:06 p.m.

Great recipe for low spoon days 👍
Works good with Kritharaki as alternative to the pasta.

Rob - Feb. 11, 2024, 7:57 p.m.

We've just got back from our holiday and I'm so jet-lagged! I have missed this app and knew I'd find something quick and easy! This is so tasty, comes together so fast and has minimal chopping. My sleep deprived self is very grateful 😂 A million times better than a takeaway!

PUL small logo PUL Team - Feb. 11, 2024, 8:32 p.m.

Aw welcome back from your holidays, Rob! So glad that the orzo was enjoyed and hope you can get some rest soon 😃

Gracie - Feb. 2, 2024, 12:44 a.m.

Loved this quick recipe! The corn added a crisp and sweet crunch to the dish. Paired well with a toasted slice of crusty bread!

Anka - Feb. 1, 2024, 6:09 a.m.

Any idea what could be a good swap for the corn? I know it‘s corn orzo, but I‘m not a big fan of corn but I like the overall idea of the recipe. Thanks!

PUL small logo PUL Team - Feb. 1, 2024, 7:23 a.m.

Hey Anka! Diced bell peppers, carrots or peas are some ideas that could be fun to try 😃. If using bell peppers or carrots though, we'd recommend adding them at the same time as the onion and garlic, so they can soften. Let us know if you give it a try!

Anita - Jan. 31, 2024, 1:22 p.m.

Simpe and delicious! I couldn't find orzo in my groceries store so I used other type of pasta and it worked out great.

PUL small logo PUL Team - Jan. 31, 2024, 5:13 p.m.

A lovely idea, Anita, thanks for sharing the tip! 😊

José - Jan. 29, 2024, 10:34 p.m.
