Main

Peruvian ceviche is more than just a dish - it's a national treasure. It's made with raw fish or seafood tossed in a tangy citrus marinade (leche de tigre) and is served chilled. In our plant-based version, we use young green jackfruit to mimic the texture of fish. It's a bold explosion of tangy flavours that makes for a light and refreshing meal for hot summer days.

Canned mushrooms or fresh…? It is a good idea!

Hey Ecr, this recipe doesn't call for mushrooms. Are you perhaps asking if mushrooms could work instead? Or was this in reference perhaps to another recipe? Let us know, we're happy to help!

Thanks! Instead of jackfruit or hearts of palm, I could not find either of them. I tried it anyway (I really wanted to make it!) but the result was far from perfect, since I used canned mushrooms and it was only for one person, I think I messed the measures up. I will keep trying in case I find the palm hearts.

Thanks again!

We were stunned by how close this comes to “normal” ceviche, it tastes absolutely fantastic. We will definitely make this again, maybe even as a fancy starter for the next dinner party. Thank you so much for this!

Looks fantastic but if no jack fruit any thoughts in how to replace ?

Michelle - Aug. 26, 2023, 11:57 p.m.

I’m sure the PUL team will have great suggestions, but till then, I sometimes use hearts of palm to replace the fish in a ceviche.

Thank you ! Easier to find for me 😊

Hey Beatrice, thanks for the question! Indeed as Michelle suggested, heart of palm is a lovely alternative and oyster mushrooms might also work well 🙂
