Pasta alla puttanesca, a popular Italian dish hailing from Naples, boasts a delectable sauce made from a blend of tomatoes, garlic, chili flakes, olives, capers, and anchovies, all cooked in olive oil. Our vegan rendition replaces the anchovies with seaweed and soy sauce to create a similarly savoury umami taste. This mouthwatering and gratifying pasta dish makes for an ideal speedy and effortless dinner option.

Super chouettes pâtes, un côté méditerranéen donné par la feuille de nori. Malheureusement je n'avais pas de persil mais je pense que ça vaudra franchement la peine d'en mettre pour la prochaine fois. A servir pour les amateurices de pâtes !

Maria - July 25, 2024, 7:48 p.m.

Delicious and quick. Used chopped tomato as it’s what I had. No problem. A little too hot so should have reduced the chilli. Very tasty 😋

caramella - July 22, 2024, 9:35 p.m.

It was really good! I replaced capers with sundried tomatoes and it worked well.

Heather Lupin - July 13, 2024, 9:54 p.m.

Really similar to the original puttanesca ! The chilli dosage is high, so, good if you enjoy it but don't hesitate to lower it if needed !

Heather Lupin - July 13, 2024, 9:56 p.m.

And I did replace the nori by kombu seaweed !

Maria - July 25, 2024, 7:47 p.m.

I agree! Just read this comment a bit late 😂

Nicole Mostofa - June 14, 2024, 12:39 a.m.

I made it woth leftover marinara. It was good. Wasn't a fan of the nori.i used sushi nori and I do love sushi. But I didn't feel it worked for me. Maybe I will try the korean snack style seaweed in the future. 🍝

Pasta tasted a bit sour

PUL small logo PUL Team - June 9, 2024, 8:18 p.m.

Hey Kristina, we're sad to hear the pasta wasn't a 5-star experience. The recipe might be overly sour due to the olives, capers, and canned tomatoes, which are all naturally acidic. Reducing the amount of these ingredients can help balance the flavour. You could also increase a bit the amount of sugar to your liking, in case you give the pasta another try 😊

Kristina - June 10, 2024, 1:48 p.m.

This is very helpful! Thank you for the tip.

Flora Agicas - March 28, 2024, 7:16 p.m.

Um, seaweed isnt easily available where i stay - what can this be replaced by?

PUL small logo PUL Team - March 29, 2024, 11:06 p.m.

Hi Flora, if seaweed isn't available, you can omit it or replace it with a dash of umami-rich ingredients like miso paste or soy sauce to mimic its savoury flavour. We hope you enjoy the pasta if you give it a try 😊

Joanna - March 16, 2024, 4:07 p.m.

I love it! I love pasta alot and this pasta was just a game changer. I love the combination of flavours together and I really enjoyed the tomatoes mashed by a spoon. Genius!

Maxine - Feb. 28, 2024, 2:24 a.m.

Super delicious!

Another new favorite recipe! 💚 Thank you to Sadia and the PUL team

lizzie - Jan. 25, 2024, 9:28 p.m.

I’d have never have thought to use nori in this dish and … it’s a win. It makes the sauce rich and full of umami goodness

5 stars!

Hippo Slippers - Jan. 11, 2024, 3:05 a.m.

The tasty level to easy factor ratio is optimal in this recipe. I think it took me even less time than it calls for, which is unusual for me. It felt like a fancy treat on a Wednesday!

PUL small logo PUL Team - Jan. 11, 2024, 4:29 a.m.

Aw we're so happy that the pasta was enjoyed, friend, thank you! 🫶

Hono - Dec. 9, 2023, 3:12 p.m.

Omg! This is pure heaven🤤. I did however add maple syrup instead of sugar because I had none. Stilll was bomb!
Also added a tiny splash of vegan fish sauce.

PUL small logo PUL Team - Dec. 10, 2023, 12:01 a.m.

A lovely idea to add syrup in place of the sugar, Hono! Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with the pasta ☺️

Franziska - Dec. 2, 2023, 4:25 p.m.

Surprisingly good - was a bit unsure because of the soy sauce and Nori but it turned out delicious. The only thing I would omit next time is the sugar, which was not needed in my opinion. But I guess this depends on your tomatoes.

Lara - Oct. 11, 2023, 8:02 p.m.

Might be my most favourite recipe so far. Made it for the first time today but see it becoming a regular weeknight dinner. So easy yet so delicious. Thank you so much!

Karo - Sept. 26, 2023, 5:38 p.m.

Simple and yummy

Karo - Aug. 29, 2023, 7:57 p.m.

Simple, but very tasty!

Silvia Triches - Aug. 6, 2023, 1:41 p.m.

I love this recipe! It’s a staple in every Italian kitchen! I follow the recipe almost to a ‘T’, except for the sugar (sorry team, I just couldn’t 😅), but I trusted you on the soy sauce. If in season, some basil would be nice, too

Jamie R - Aug. 6, 2023, 5:34 a.m.

Is there anything you’d recommend using in place of olives for those of us who don’t love them? Suggestions appreciated - can’t wait to try this!

PUL small logo PUL Team - Aug. 6, 2023, 10:05 a.m.

Hey Jamie, perhaps you can try sun-dried tomatoes or marinated artichoke hearts :)

julia - Aug. 5, 2023, 11:53 p.m.

It’s so good!

Eden - July 30, 2023, 4:52 p.m.

Thank you for all of the lovely recipes. I have a question about using canned vs fresh tomatoes. Is there a reason why the recipe uses canned instead of fresh? I try to use fresh food as much as possible. I appreciate your feedback. Thank you!

PUL small logo PUL Team - July 30, 2023, 9:33 p.m.

Hey Eden, so happy the recipes are being enjoyed, and thanks for the question! We prefer canned tomatoes in some dishes (mainly when the tomato is cooked down) because they're picked at peak ripeness which offers a consistent taste and they also offer a consistent acidity. They're convenient to have on hand as well. We hope this helps for now and happy cooking 🤗

Enisa - July 17, 2023, 11:55 a.m.

Super easy and so delicious! You likely have all ingredients in the cupboard. Nori sheet works so well, I never thought of that before!

Diana Carvalho - July 16, 2023, 9:25 p.m.

So easy and so tasty! Added smoked tofu for extra protein but this is great! 🔥

Helen - July 4, 2023, 11:24 a.m.

Delicious - used gluten free spaghetti and it tasted lovely - & just as good the next day!

Meg - July 4, 2023, 2:17 a.m.

My 5 year old daughter told me this is the best dinner she’s had in her entire life.. if that’s not a 5 star recipe, I don’t know what is!

PUL small logo PUL Team - July 5, 2023, 4:16 a.m.

Awww such a massive compliment, Meg - thank you!

Natasha - June 13, 2023, 10:29 a.m.

Delicious 😋
