This is such a yummy hearty recipe! I used whole wheat flour for the dumplings and they came out delicious. I was skeptical about using whole wheat flour not knowing how it would taste but I was pleasantly surprised. I will make it again!

Second PUL recipe made; after I added a LOT more seasonings it was very tasty. Only giving 3 stars because before alterations were made this was quite bland. I added: bay leaves, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, oregano, garlic salt, and a lot of salt and pepper.
With these additions, I would give this a 4 as a solid veggie dumpling soup. My non-vegan husband didn’t enjoy it as much, but says he would eat it again. I will say this was a fairly inexpensive dinner, which I appreciate, and it came together very quickly.

I forgot, I also added additional dried thyme, some rosemary, and crushed fennel seed. Just in case anyone else likes a LOT of flavor like my household, I wanted to be sure to list everything added.
The recipe as-is is a decent base to start from 🙂

Hey Heather, thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with the recipe! In case it helps, sometimes there's variation from brand to brand for bouillon cubes. We use the ones we get from our local store here called Albert Heijn, it's their house brand, and sometimes we get a brand called Maggi 😊

Easy & delicious. I used dried thyme & dill (1/2 teaspoon each) instead of fresh. I scooped the dumplings off as soon as they were finished and will store them separately. Comfort in a bowl😋

Such a comforting meal! The soup turned out surprisingly creamy and my dumplings were nice and fluffy. It really has a similar taste profile to a chicken pot pie, which was quite nostalgic. I used dried herbs instead of fresh as I was feeling too lazy to go to the shop 😜

Really tasty for such a simple recipe! I actually did enjoy it as leftovers - the texture was different as the dumplings absorbed more moisture, but flavors were richer next day.

Hi Nicole, so glad that you enjoyed trying the reicpe! Out of curiosity, did you scoop-measure the flour or weigh it? It could be that your dumplings had a bit more flour, making them a bit breadier. If your veggies are also really large, you could add an extra 1/2 cup of water to the soup base. In step 2, the pot should be covered, which helps to cook the veggies but keeps the moisture in the pot. Happy cooking 😊

I used a scoop measure. I really liked the texture of the dumplings. I have never had bread dumplings in soup like this before, so I am not sure what they are supposed to taste like. But I think I prefer the bready version, with only the bottom parts touching the soup getting a little moist.

Wow. This was really good. I loved it so much. So cozy, and SO easy to prep and make. The flavors were spot on. I excluded the peas on accident but enjoyed it more that way! Highly recommend to make this at least once- especially if you're feeling under the weather or on a rainy day.

I really liked this recipe. Mine was thicker, it seems, than the picture but I did not mind at all!
I would like to experiment with some fresh herbs in the dumplings next time.🤷‍♀️. The dumplings were good. will make this again.

So creative with the drop dumpling topping and so good! Definitely a keeper, but next time I would make a few personal adjustments: more water/broth (ours didn’t turn out nearly as brothy as the photos look), more chickpeas, and fewer peas.

I made some slight changes just because this was what I had access too
I used a can of peas instead of frozen and it was still good. I also used veggie broth instead of cubes and water because I ran out of the boullian cubes

Oh my yum! Delicious, especially on a cold winter day. We used all purpose gluten free flour (Bob's Red Mill) to make this GF. It held together great without any modifications, albeit the dumplings were a tiny bit slimy on the exterior. Otherwise, I think it's safe to say that this can be made gluten free!

Hi RM! We just tried this with Bob's Red Mill all purpose gluten free flour and it work great at a 1-1 ratio. The exterior of the dumplings were a touch "slimy," but the flavor and consistency held. As soon as you dug into them, it didn't matter! :)
