Wow! That one is a keeper. I used a mix of kidney and white beans - since that what I had at hand. Loved the patties and the mushrom + bell pepper mix. And my friends loved it, too.

Dunja Markovinovic - July 16, 2024, 3:55 p.m.

Delicious patties! I let the mixture rest in the fridge for a few hours before panfrying the patties and they had a really nice texture. They didn't fall appart like most bean burgers 😄

Kim - June 20, 2024, 5:31 a.m.

My meat-eating family thought these were great but a bit too spicy altogether. Next time we’ll put much less adobo & spice. But it’s a keeper.

Alexis S - June 12, 2024, 7:57 a.m.

I love these burgers! The mushroom-bell pepper mix and Cajun mayo make this dish!

Julia - March 13, 2024, 7:49 p.m.

We used kidney beans instead of pinto beans and used different but similar sauces. The burgers were delicious and if you're careful, they are stable enough. I can recommend adding vegan cheese on top once you've flipped them and closing the pan with a lid, so the cheese can melt.

PUL small logo PUL Team - March 13, 2024, 10:41 p.m.

So happy to hear you enjoyed the burgers, Julia! A lovely idea to use kidney beans as well :)

Rút - Feb. 21, 2024, 8:25 p.m.

So many great PUL recipes, but this was a miss for me, and way too much onion in the burgers - ‘medium’ isn’t measurement.
(Also, what’s 1/2 tbsp? It’s like saying 1/7 cup. Might look neater in recipe, but it’s not an actual measurement either.)

PUL small logo PUL Team - Feb. 22, 2024, 6:05 p.m.

Hey Rút, we're sorry to hear this recipe was a miss for you, but appreciate the feedback! One medium onion for us is around 110 grams (3.9 ounces). Half a tablespoon (tbsp) is equal to one and a half teaspoons.

Rút - Feb. 23, 2024, 12:31 p.m.

Ah, onion grammes/ounces would have been really useful to know! Why not just put 1 1/2 tsps in recipe?

PUL small logo PUL Team - Feb. 23, 2024, 8:22 p.m.

Hey Rút, the half-tablespoon measurement is commonly used and is labeled as 1/2 Tbsp here in the Netherlands, and in a similar way in Canada. It is possible, though, that some manufacturers of measuring spoons might not include this specific size in their sets. We've decided to maintain the use of 1/2 Tbsp because it allows for measuring with a single utensil, which makes the process faster, as opposed to using two utensils (a 1 tsp measuring spoon and a 1/2 tsp measuring spoon). I hope this helps :)

Rút - Feb. 24, 2024, 10:49 p.m.

Ah, we’ve different 3 sets of measuring spoons and none have that measure; we won’t be buying another set! Maybe a key somewhere would be useful? 1/2 tbsp = 3 x 1/2 tsp; medium onion = 110g etc

Also noticed the app changes ‘my recipe’ measurements to 1/2tbsp when it’s specifically not entered. That’s a bit frustrating, especially for own recipes.

Poiven Capp - Jan. 30, 2024, 7:09 p.m.

loved it! I made it with lentils and wasn't able to mash them as thoroughly as I wanted to. maybe if I first mashed them in a bowl on their own, or even put them in a food processor, they would have come out better. as it is the patties are a little unstable. I still love this recipe though!

Katie - Jan. 14, 2024, 1:27 a.m.

So delicious! Even my husband who’s a meat lover loved this burger. Thanks for another amazing recipe🥰

Carol - March 14, 2024, 6:48 p.m.

Hi. Did you make the patty alone or everything?

Kathrin - Dec. 31, 2023, 9:32 p.m.

The burgers were delicious and pretty fast and easy to make. 😄👍 We added some glazed onions and guacamole and iceberg lettuce instead of rocket and coleslaw because that's what we had and our was still really good!

PUL small logo PUL Team - Jan. 3, 2024, 6:37 a.m.

Yayy so happy that the burgers were enjoyed, Kathrin! Thank you for taking the time to share the feedback ☺️

k.Rosa - Aug. 23, 2023, 6:50 p.m.

These were so tasty! I added extra glazed onions to the red paprika’s and mushrooms and I doubled the chipotle sauce.
A nourishing treat :)

Katerina - Aug. 18, 2023, 6:59 a.m.

Can i make these in the bbq?

PUL small logo PUL Team - Aug. 18, 2023, 8 a.m.

Hey Katerina, we haven't tested out barbecuing these patties, but we don't imagine they would grill well as the patties are rather soft. Frying on the pan is the best bet for these ones to ensure they hold their shape 🤗

Jella - Aug. 5, 2023, 12:38 p.m.

Just used this recipe for the patties. They were really easy to make! Especially with a food processor :) didn’t see salt listed in the ingredients but I did seasoned them with a little salt. Perfect recipe for some healthy and wholesome comfort food☺️

PUL small logo PUL Team - Aug. 5, 2023, 9:25 p.m.

Hey Jella, so glad you enjoyed this recipe! Our cajun seasoning is rather salty, which is why we chose to omit salt from our ingredient list, but of course, you can add more to your preference 😊

Jella - Aug. 7, 2023, 8:40 p.m.

Didn’t realize Cajun seasoning had salt in it. Also didn’t have any at home😆 so I spiced it up with some chili powder instead 😁

Diana - July 23, 2023, 1:29 a.m.

Really good burgers, but there was too much onion in my mix. I'd greatly appreciate weights and measures for the onion in your recipes since "medium" is not terribly objective. Easy edit for next time. Thanks, as always.

PUL small logo PUL Team - July 25, 2023, 5:59 a.m.

Hey Diana, thanks for sharing the feedback! In the meantime, in case it helps, our medium onions are around 110 grams 😊

Nicole - July 18, 2023, 3:43 a.m.

Just made it, this was delicious!

Tareena Dhanani - June 27, 2023, 10:06 p.m.

Loveddd the recipe. So so flavorful. Love where there is each step by step make along feature with timer. 🤩

PUL small logo PUL Team - June 28, 2023, 9:11 a.m.

It means so much more than we can express, Tareena! Thank you ✨

Ankyra - June 10, 2023, 7:44 p.m.

Sounds delicious, going to try those asap😀
I just love your recipes, everything I tried was sooooo good. Some dishes I adjusted to my likings (I hate olives, Fetacheese and Radieschen 😁🙈)
The double chocolate granola is an a time favorite ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

PUL small logo PUL Team - June 10, 2023, 10:20 p.m.

Awe thank you so much, Ankyra 🤗 and hope you enjoy the recipe!

Sandra - March 22, 2023, 10:57 p.m.

I only made the patties. The recipe Is very good with lots of healthy ingreditents. I always make them ahead and freeze them so I can later have them ready to go when I want some burgers.

PUL small logo PUL Team - March 23, 2023, 6:58 a.m.

A lovely idea, Sandra, thank you 🤗

Elsa - Feb. 23, 2023, 11:59 a.m.

Thank you for this recipe, i'm planning to do it for 25 persons tomorrow, and I was wondering if I could cook these patties in the oven... what do you think?

PUL small logo PUL Team - Feb. 23, 2023, 7:02 p.m.

Hey Elsa, mmm so many burgers! We haven't tested this recipe in the oven but imagine you could. For example, perhaps 375°F for 10 minutes per side is a starting point. We'd suggest keeping a closer eye on the patties though since every oven tends to be different. If the burger patties don't get as crispy as desired, you could also broil them shortly 😊

Klara - Jan. 15, 2023, 11:37 a.m.

My favourite burgers to make for my family. I add the sauteed mushrooms ( pepper) to my burger mix, so delicious! I usually batch make these and keep them in the freezer!

PUL small logo PUL Team - Jan. 16, 2023, 12:12 a.m.

So thrilled it the burger is being enjoyed, Klara, and love the addition of mushrooms!

Lauralyn - June 12, 2022, 2:54 a.m.

These were the my best burgers I've ever had! The flavor combination between the burgers, mushroom and pepper mixture, homemade coleslaw, and spicy mayo was incredible. Thank you for this lovely recipe. It was well worth making!

PUL small logo PUL Team - June 15, 2022, 6:57 a.m.

Such a massive compliment, Lauralyn! Thank YOU for the glowing review 🤗

Luci - July 26, 2021, 6:31 a.m.

Delicious and fairly easy to make! The burger patties had a really sticky consistency, but they formed just fine and easily flipped. Next time, I’ll cook a bit lower and slower, so the inside gets more cooked. Didn’t make the Cajun Mayo, but made the mushroom/red bell topping. Love this burger!

PUL small logo PUL Team - July 27, 2021, 7:43 p.m.

So glad you enjoyed the burgers, Luci! To help with the sticky consistency when forming the patties, using a touch of flour or wet hands may help a bit ☺️

Aida - June 27, 2021, 5:37 p.m.

I made these and they turned out AMAZING

Zee - June 12, 2021, 1:08 a.m.

Is there a substitute for pinto beans? Can I use kidney or cannellini beans instead? Will the quantity remain the same?

PUL small logo PUL Team - June 13, 2021, 12:10 a.m.

Hello Zee, lovely question! You can substitute the pinto beans for another cooked bean of your choice, such as kidney beans, or cooked brown lentils. The quantity will remain the same 🙂

Hagit - June 8, 2021, 7:25 p.m.

Hi, looks so good! is there an optional substitute for the flaxseeds?

PUL small logo PUL Team - June 9, 2021, 6:17 a.m.

Hey there, Hagit, that's a great question! The ground flax seeds in water form a gel that helps act as a glue so the burger patties bind together. You could substitute the ground flax seeds for another ground seed, such as chia seeds, as ground chia seeds work well as a substitute!

Alternatively, you could experiment with some other ingredients that act as a binder, such as mashed banana, apple sauce, or a commercial egg replacer. These may impact the patty as they're generally sweeter in taste though. Let us know how it goes if you give any of these ideas a try 😃

Chris - May 18, 2021, 12:55 p.m.

Amazing recipe! 😋

If I'm not mistaken, the amount of cooked pinto beans should be somewhere around 240 g.

PUL small logo PUL Team - May 22, 2021, 5:27 a.m.

So glad you enjoyed the recipe, Chris, and great catch! Thank you for pointing that out and bearing with any confusion the initial number had. It's been updated ✨☺️
